Welcome to our Griot Spolight. Once a month we will feature a Griot sharing stories of our lives. If you are interested in being featured, please email info@brownsugargriots.com with your bio and picture.
This month's Spotlight is on Veronica "Ronnie' Massey. With a father that gave her her first comic book at eight and a mother that named her after a resident of Riverdale, read fairy tales to her on a nightly basis, and introduced her to shows like Dr. Who, The Tomorrow People (courtesy of PBS) and Star Trek TOS, it was almost a given that Ronnie Massey would become a fan of all things supernatural, paranormal, sci-fi, and fantasy. By day the South Carolina native, mother of two and grandmother of one, works with Alzheimers residents at a local assisted living facility. When she’s not working, the author is busy balancing family life with various writing projects. Any free time she manages to find is spent with her family, reading, at the movies, or playing Mortal Kombat. After her first novel, Crimson Dawn: DarkLife Saga, was published, she followed with the YA novel UnBound: Battle of the Half Angels, as well as Black Moon Rising, the sequel to Crimson Dawn, and Faeries, Fangs, and Fur: Tales From the DarkWorld, a collection of short stories set in her Dark World. After taking a break from novels to explore the art of creating and writing comics, the author is preparing multiple titles for release, including the comic, Being Van from Brown Sugar Griots, as well as two new books set in her DarkWorld, Ascension: Wolves of Goose Creek, and the YA title The Road to Was.
